Our physical education curriculum is created from constructivist perspective based on the seminal work of Piaget and Vgotsky. In addition, we apply a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) framework which provides the best model of emotional, psychological, and character education to apply in the physical education context.
What is the Social and Emotional Learning Framework:
The three fundamentals of SEL include:
GOAL 1: Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success
GOAL 2: Use social awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships
GOAL 3: Demonstrate decision making skills and responsible behaviors in personal, school, community contexts
Experts Agree –
“We don’t begin to have enough teachers or school administrators or school coaches who know how to deliver instruction in new ways. Teachers have to invent a lot of their practice on their own and structurally are largely unsupported and too much along in this work.”
~Kirsten Olsen a consultant for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Kennedy School at Harvard, and many large public school systems and charter schools.
“Internet based communities of teachers are becoming increasingly important tool for overcoming teachers’ sense of isolation. They also provide avenues for geographically dispersed teachers who are participating in the same kinds of innovations to exchange information and offer support to each other.”
~John D. Bransford former PhD professor at Vanderbilt University, senior fellow at the Institute of Public Policy, and co-author of How People Learn: Brain, Mind, and Experience, and School a project of the National Research Council
“Student-centric learning is the escape hatch from the temporal, lateral, physical, and hierarchical cells of standardization“
~Clayton Christensen is a Professor of Business Administration at Harvard University and coauthor of two New York Times best selling books The Innovator’s Dilemma and the Innovator’s Solution.
